Being able to dine outside is a sign of good things to come – longer evenings and warm weather. Eating al fresco with family and friends always feels good, but more than ever now this year after spending countless months inside staring at the same four walls. To celebrate, we’ve rounded up the best and stylish dining pods London has to offer.
Where: Coppa Club, 3 Three Quays Walk, Lower Thames Street, London, EC3R 6AH
The picturesque restaurant, Coppa Club, were the first ones to start the igloo revolution and you’ll be lucky to book a table at these pods, as they fill up weeks in advance. But it’s definitely worth a shot! The Instagram-worthy pods are a constant hit regardless of the season. Groups of up to six can sit under the bamboo lanterns, festoon lighting, and suspended botanicals, whilst enjoying a moment of escapism with a beautiful view of Tower Bridge. Plus, to keep you nice and warm, the igloos are equipped with faux fur blankets and plenty of heating.
The menu focuses on carefully crafted, but simple European food from nibbles and small plates to grilled mains, fresh pasta, healthy but delicious salads and sourdough pizzas. Try the likes of the buttermilk fried chicken with chili mayonnaise; Devon crab linguine with hand-picked white crab meat, capers, chilli, anchovy, parsley and lemon; and British flash steak served with skinny fries and a choice of truffle cream.
Where: 10th Floor, Montcalm Royal London House Hotel, 22-23 Finsbury Square, London, EC2A 1DX
Situated on the tenth floor of the Montcalm Royal London House, the Aviary combines its gastropub style with the glitz and glamour expected of anything with ‘royal’ on its name. The pods bring a touch of Scandi-style to the sky, each igloo is covered with ice blue twinkling lights and comes complete with luxurious faux fur snug rugs, blankets and hot water bottles. What more could you ask for? Also, we need to talk about the views. One of the best dining spots in London, for sure.
The igloos are usually up for the cooler months and taken down for summer. So, if you take a fancy to them be quick to make a booking as they will only be available until 6 June. But not to worry, they will be back in October.
Their traditional rolled pork belly will feature alongside roast shiitake mushrooms, edamame bean puree, peas pickled jalapeno and a pork jus. For dessert, expect firm favourites such as the chocolate delice accompanied by peanut brittle, chocolate soil and raspberry sorbet, or opt for the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel, Granny Smith, candied pecans and malt ice cream.
The Aviary have extremely talented mixologists who will be stirring and shaking to keep spirits high, creating an exclusive selection of tipples including the Zombie and Negroni or indulge in a velvety, deluxe hot chocolate with lashings of rum and fluffy marshmallows to garnish.
