Some exciting news has been roaming around lately, and you heard it right. A reboot of Gossip Girl is happening! *SCREAMS*
What will it be about? When, where will it be aired? Who’s the cast? You’ll find all the answers and details you need here.
This reboot consists of a ten episodes series, 60 minutes running time each, and will be on HBO Max. The team announced on Twitter that the show will air in July but a specific date is yet to be confirmed. Along with the caption, the Gossip Girl Twitter account even shared a short video to maintain the excitement of this upcoming series.
“Good afternoon, followers. I need no introduction, but these New York elite do. Pleased to present your newest obsession – coming to @hbomax this July. Clear your calendars accordingly.”
Gossip Girl started in 2007 and ended in 2012 after six successful seasons. Undoubtedly, a lot has changed since. The spin-off will be about this evident change, and as mentioned in Deadline, “Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.”
The show is undeniably exciting and the fact that it sounds so relatable has captured our attention even more!
It’s also been confirmed that the reboot will bring a lot more diversity to the show. Joshua Safran, the creator of the original and Gossip Girl reboot, confirmed on Twitter extra features that we can expect.
“How gay is it going to be?” “It is very, very queer.”
“What is the biggest difference between the original and the reboot you’re most proud of?” “The majority of characters being diverse and/or queer.”
This news about diverse and queer characters is excitable among imagination. Unfortunately however, our favourite characters, as well as the entire original cast of the original Gossip Girl will not be back except for Kristen Bell, the narrator.
